The main goal of the Project ISOSeM

The main goal of the Project ISOSeM is to conduct scientific and experimental research related to the systematization and the development of scientific knowledge for the application of Artificial Intelligence in education through modeling of personalized education, sensors and sensor networks, and research on the reliability of intelligent learning systems.

Specific objectives and expected results

Conducting interdisciplinary scientific research and creating new knowledge about the fundamental phenomena and facts in the ecosystem of personalized e-learning and sensor networks will contribute to the achievement of the main goal of the project by:

1.         Research and creation of models of sensors and sensor networks for the application in intelligent educational systems;

2.         Development of models of knowledge and organization of personalized education necessary for the structured storage of data collected through sensor networks;

3.         Project modeling of intelligent educational systems by integrating models for personalized education and models of sensor networks.

4.         Research of methods for achieving reliability in the ecosystem of personalized e-learning and sensor networks.

5.         Development of researchers in the field of intelligent educational systems.

The approaches of modeling and experimental research of complex systems, such as Intelligent Educational Systems, are used to achieve the research goals. These are an essential and integral part of fundamental research, as many different and related disciplines in this field have their own ideas for specific types of modeling. The topic of the project has a strong interdisciplinary aspect. The main factor for conducting the interdisciplinary research is the application of Artificial Intelligence for educational purposes. As a result, interdisciplinary research is needed, which is seen as a process for solving problems that arise in an attempt to reconcile the results of scientific and applied research from a wide range of disciplines. These disciplines cover smart personalized learning and information and communication technologies related to sensor networks, the provision of reliability and quality of service of intelligent educational systems, as well as various topics of artificial intelligence. In the case of intelligent educational systems, the integration is essential and, in this project, it is supported by conceptual analysis and modeling, the application of a flexible model of the research process and the very important teamwork, which distinguishes the planned interdisciplinary research from the multidisciplinary research. The project solutions will be in line with the trends in the development of European research and with the world’s best practices in the thematic area. The obtained project results will be applied in the design of a specific intelligent educational system, where they will be experimented, tested, analyzed and improved. The main goal is achieved by solving research tasks divided into 4 work packages (WP1 - WP4). All activities related to the dissemination and multiplication of project results are grouped in WP5, and those related to the effective project management - in WP6:

1. WP1: Research and modeling of sensor networks and systems;

2. WP2: Modeling of knowledge and methods for personalized education;

3. WP3: Design and research of intelligent educational environment;

4. WP4: Reliability and quality of service in intelligent educational systems and sensor networks;

5. WP5: Dissemination and multiplication of the results;

6. WP6: Project management

The expected results from the implementation of the project are: 8 accepted or sent for publication publications in journals that are indexed in SCOPUS and Web of Science or journals with impact factor, IF (Web of Science) and impact rank SJR (SCOPUS); 8 accepted or sent for publication papers at international conferences indexed in SCOPUS and Web of Science; 2 peer-reviewed monographs published or accepted for publication; 2-4 specialized courses / textbooks, 2-4 submitted / registered patents / utility models in the Patent Office of the Republic of Bulgaria; participation in the organization and holding of 4 international scientific events:

a) Three international conferences IEEE “Big Data, Knowledge and Control Systems Engineering” 3 consecutive years;

b) A workshop dedicated to the topic of the project within an international conference
